When I get the privilege of interviewing inspiring women such as Chloe, I take the time to read through their answers - taking notes. This is how I decide on the pull out quotes and also helps with write this introduction. Chloe's interview has so many good nuggets and I was sure I had selected the quote to highlight about halfway through. But, Chloe's interview has a beautiful weave between business, life, gratitude and self-care and then the phases the hit me the most - that has my eyes well up as I'm writing this - "If you're called to start a business and to lead a movement in the world, please honour that calling by following it. Even though it may be challenging at times, it will be worth it!"

It's not until you work for yourself that you realise the massive link between your personal life and mindset and your ability to be successful in your business. To show up every day, doing the work and making the impact you want. And when times get tough - and they will - you need to focus firmly on that inner calling that is leading you to do the work, show up and make the impact.

I'm sure many people believe I created this interview series for my community - to help inspire women everywhere to step up, making a difference and live a life they love. But honestly, I do it for myself - selfish - but I don't care! Which each and every interview I am grounded into what is most important for me and walk away with a renewed sense of self and that I"m on the right path.

What is your age?

Tell me about you and your family

I’m an award-winning Certified Life and Mindset Coach based on the Mornington Peninsula. My mission (the quick version) across all of my work is to support people to get the most out of their one infinite life. I became interested in personal development when I was twelve years old, which led to me getting a degree in psychological science and doing the work I do today. 

Using my experience with personal development from the past fifteen years I work with clients one-to-one through my business One Infinite Life and I’m currently exploring how I can expand on the work I currently do with a role in the local youth services. I also guide people to add more gratitude into their lives through my experiment The 28 Day Gratitude Project.

When I’m not coaching or working you’ll most likely find me drinking tea, hiking or walking at the beach or binge-watching Brooklyn 99.

As for my family, I’m the oldest of three siblings and I’ve been with my partner for ten years this year. My family and upbringing have had a huge influence on leading me to the work I do now.

What does an average day look like?

Every day is so different and that is one of the best parts of working for myself, but it can also be the most challenging. I’ve found that I work best when I have themes to my days and can really get into the flow of the different aspects to my work. At the moment some of my days are themed around:

- Writing content, connecting with and creating value for my community.
- Delivering client sessions, preparing for sessions checking in with my clients.
- Admin for my business and updating and refining client processes.
- Work experience with a local youth service organisation.

Outside my work I always try to start the day with some self-care and I think it’s super important to check in with yourself before you check in with social media or start working. When I finish work for the day my partner and I usually go for a walk in the bushland near my home, do yoga and then prepare dinner. We mostly always have a relaxing evening at home drinking tea, reading and watching our latest tv series obsession.

Tell me about your business

My business was created because at the time I realised it was the only way for me to do the work I wanted to do in the world, to serve my clients in the way I wanted to and operate in a way that is fully aligned with me and my values. I started with offering coaching services (which is still my main service) and also created a product called The 28 Day Gratitude Project where I guide people through experimenting with gratitude for 28 days. I also mentor life coach trainees as they become coaches themselves, which has become a fun element of my work. I’ve mostly focused on honing my coaching skills in my business instead of creating lots of different offerings/products/services as for me that has felt like the most important thing as I've navigated challenges with my health the last couple of years.

As much as I love the work I do in my business a missing piece for me has been supporting young people who potentially may not be able to access coaching. So at the moment I’m exploring how I can expand my work into this area and whether this will be a role that will be inside or outside my business. So I’m excited to see how this will unfold and also the things I will create and offer this year.

Are you happy with this revenue level?

Yes, if you would have told me when I was younger that I would be able to earn my own money through my own business I wouldn't of believed it. And of course I believe you can be grateful for what you currently have while also working towards more and that's something I'm always focusing on.

Has your revenue increased or decreased over the life of your business?

Over the life of my business my revenue has continued to increase, which is quite interesting especially as I've navigated a chronic illness diagnoses and felt like I worked less in some years than others.

When you hear that only 2% of businesses that are owned by women have revenue of over $1 million, how does that make you feel?

I feel surprised, but then also not surprised! That is a really disturbing statistic and something that I hope changes very quickly. It also makes me feel incredibly grateful to be in a place where I'm able to build my own business and earn my own money from it. This is something that I know is not available to all woman across the world and it's not something I take lightly at all. So with that in mind, this makes me feel empowered to do the work I'm doing and also excited for the future for women in business!

What are your goals for the future?

My goals within my business and work is to grow into the best coach I can possibly be and to expand my work into the local youth industry. Outside my business I'm currently working towards being at my best health (and being pain free) and feeling sovereign in my life.

What assistance do you need to achieve your goals or what do you think is holding you back?

The biggest way I assist myself with my goals is by actually coaching myself to achieve them and I'm constantly working on things that are holding me back and (self)coaching to move forward. I also often ask myself, "What do I need right now in order to make this happen?" and that can be quite illuminating to work out what kind of support I may need to work through the next stage of a goal. I think the biggest thing that holds us back from achieving our goals is ourselves, so anything we can to support ourselves to get out of our own way is super powerful.

Who inspires you?

So many people! At the moment I'm really inspired by Ange Peters from Hol Fit and in particularly the work she shared in her Beautiful Life Lab. I've been immersed in this work for the past couple of months and it is changing everything for me.​​​​

Why did you go into business for yourself? Would you do it again?

I went into business for myself because it felt like the only way I could do the work I wanted to do and to operate in a way that was fully aligned with my values and the life I wanted to live. I would definitely do it again.

On days when you want to quit, what keeps you going?

The days where you feel like giving up are pretty much inevitable when you work for yourself, I always try to give myself space and permission to step back (if possible) and take a breather. This always helps.

Ever since the beginning of my business and actually back when I graduated as a coach I made a commitment to myself that I was going to be a coach (or use these skills) for the rest of my life (in whatever way that might look like) so it's this commitment to play the long game that continually gives me such perspective and helps me to keep going when things feel hard.

I also tap into gratitude for even being able to do the work I do and that always helps so much.

Any tips or advice for juggling life, family, friends, health and your business?

Focus on what is important to you and align your schedule to that and the life you want to live. Sometimes there are seasons of your life where you're focusing on one area more than others and that is totally okay too. I continually ask myself: "What's most important to me this month/this year?" and this helps me to work out where to focus my time and energy,

Is your partner supportive of your business and has that changed over time?

My partner is incredibly supportive of my business and the work I do and he has always been that way. Over the past decade together he has been there and fully supported me with everything I have done, including starting my business. He moved away with me when I went to university, supported me through my degree and life coach training and also has continued to support me as I started my business. This is something I am so grateful for.

How have you invested in yourself or your business?

Investing in yourself is so important and it's something that always influences your business to (even if it seems indirect). I've done various things to invest in myself and my business over the years, but the most powerful has been investing in my health and self-care. Last year particularly I invested a lot of time, energy and resources into healing a chronic illness in various ways (including investing in a self-care course). It was interesting to see how these investments influenced my business, as it definitely wasn't something I was expecting.
